Clean Energy Week 2026 Emphasises Vital Role of Clean Energy in Driving Cambodia’s Energy Security and Economic Resilience

The ongoing global fuel crisis and volatility of international oil and gas markets has been a direct threat to household budgets, business competitiveness, and national growth in Cambodia. 

On September 15, 2026, representatives of the Royal Government of Cambodia, the Australian Embassy, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), joined EnergyLab Asia for the Clean Energy Week 2026 Summit at the Raffles Hotel Le Royal. 

Held under the theme, “Clean Energy for Energy Security and Economic Resilience”, Clean Energy Week 2026 will run from September 15–21, with a focus on the vital role that clean energy can play in strengthening the country’s energy security and economic resilience. 

This year's theme reflects a pivotal moment for Cambodia. The clean energy transition is key to strengthening the reliability and affordability of Cambodia's energy supply, while building a more secure and self-reliant economy. 

Cambodia's big steps to ramp up clean energy will reduce the exposure of key economic sectors to global fuel price volatility, safeguarding the country's economic competitiveness, and unlocking new investment opportunities and quality jobs. 

H.E. Keo Rottanak, Minister of Mines and Energy, said,

We are investing in the storage, flexibility and stronger connections needed to keep a growing share of renewable power reliable. The volatility in international fuel markets this year was a reminder of why this work matters. As we put clean, affordable power to use across transport, businesses and industry, we will strengthen Cambodia’s competitiveness, attract investment and create better jobs and more secure livelihoods across the country.”

Emphasising the significance of access to clean energy for Cambodia’s economic resilience, Australian Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Derek Yip, said:

That is why Australia is supporting Cambodia's clean energy transition through initiatives that strengthen power system planning and dispatch capabilities, expand access to green finance and create inclusive pathways to careers in the clean energy sector. Clean Energy Week is an annual event that showcases success stories, best practices, technical innovations, and policy analysis to accelerate the clean energy transition in Cambodia. It convenes government policymakers, development partners, civil society, and private sector leaders to foster collaboration, while raising public awareness of clean energy among a broad local audience.
